This Privacy and Personal Data Policies section governs and informs about the manner in which the Università della Svizzera italiana (hereafter: USI) collects, uses, maintains and discloses personal data and information, both in manual and digital form, received by the USI Hackathon 2019 (hereafter: Hackathon) participants (each, a “Participant”).
USI may collect personal identification information from Participants in a variety of ways connected to the organization of the Hackathon, including, but not limited to, when Participants visit our sites, register to the event, fill out a form, send an email, and in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available.
USI does not store financial, health, government, or other kinds of more sensitive Participants information.
USI will collect and treat personal identification information, notably name, email, country (and if applicable, Canton) of residence and age communicated by Participants only if they voluntarily submit such information to us and explicitly agree about our Privacy and Personal Data Policies.
USI may collect and use Participants personal data, notably credit card number, bank account coordinates, to process payments. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to provide the service (see “Sharing your personal information: third parties policies”).
Data can be used for existing or new media at a global level without granting you a remuneration or right of usage, excluding when this is forbidden by law. This consent includes promotional and advertising purpose and has a duration of three years after the completion of the Hackathon.
USI may collect non-personal identification information about Participants whenever they interact with the Hackathon websites. Non-personal identification information may include the browser name, the type of computer and technical information about Participants’ means of connection to our Sites, such as the operating system and the Internet service provider utilized and other similar information.
The Hackathon websites may use “cookies” to enhance Participants’ experience. Participants’ web browser places cookies on their hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about them. Participants may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert them when cookies are being sent. If they do so, note that some parts of the Site may not function properly.
Participation to the Hackathon constitutes agreement by the Participant to USI’s use of the Participant’s image or voice in photographs, videotapes, websites, electronic reproductions and audiotapes.
We do not sell, trade, or rent Participants personal data to others.
For organizational, security or payments reasons, USI can transmit necessary personal data to third parties, including, but not limited to federal and cantonal police, embassies.
Third parties such as, but not limited to, Google Analytics or Matomo, could collect and use information anonymously to understand how visitors interact with the Hackathon websites. Access statistics are anonymized. It is not possible to trace the results of this analysis back to a specific IP address.
USI adopts appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of the Participant’s personal information stored on USI databases.
Sensitive and private data exchange between the sites and its users happens over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.
Personal Data can be kept by USI for two years after the event in order to keep Participants informed about the possible organization of other Hackathons or similar events.
Participants can at any time ask USI the list of their data by email to hackathon2019@usi.ch.
Participants can always refuse to supply personal identification information. In this case, the registration to the Hackathon will not be completed and Participants will not be able to participate to the event. Any data communicated to USI will be definitively deleted.
In any case, the cancellation of your personal data may occur at any time upon your request by email to hackathon2019@usi.ch.
Modifications of this Privacy and Personal Data Policies will be posted on this page and are effective from the moment they are published.
